It’s early and your alarm is sounding off.

After hitting snooze several times, you roll out of bed, take a shower, get dressed, pack your lunch and head out the door.

You get to work, make small talk with coworkers, and head home as soon as the clock (which you swear has been ticking slower than usual) says it’s time to leave. Finally, you get home. You sit down for dinner, catch up on social media or your favourite Netflix show, and you head to bed.

And then you wake up and do it all over again the next day… and the next day… and the next…
You’ve got the routine down pat! But is it actually working for you?

More importantly…

Are you happy?

Being happy doesn’t mean you have a continuous radiant smile all day long or that you’re full of energy. It doesn’t mean that you don’t have bad days or days where you struggle to get everything done that you said you would. BUT, if you’re really truly happy – you’re enthusiastic and generally satisfied with the life you live day in and day out.

So, let me ask you this: Do you love your life?

Be real; not for me, but for YOU. Think about about how you really feel and answer honestly – there’s no judgement here. Are you content with your life right now? Where you’re headed in the next week, month, year? How do you feel about where your future is headed?

If you’re moving through every day with purpose – you should feel good. Sure, we all have bad days – we usually refer to them in conversation as “one of those days”, followed by an eye roll and a bottle of wine. But ‘those days’ should never outweigh the really great days that leave us feeling accomplished and content when we finally tuck ourselves back into bed. There should be less days when we hit the snooze button because we dread our same ol’ routine, than those because we’re just knackered from enjoying our life.

To live with purpose means to feel that buzz of positive vibes down in your soul. From the moment you wake up until you close your eyes for the night, you carry an element of inspiration (even if you’re exhausted) throughout your day.

So, how do you feel?

Do you feel energized and energized about life? Or, are you stuck in a perpetual revolving door, where you’re doing the same old (uninspiring, dull, monotonous) thing every… single.. day?

If it’s the second one, let’s get you out of that jam.

Take a seat, my friend. We’re going to get you unstuck from your rut.

Intention Intervention

If there’s one thing in this life that you absolutely deserve, it’s being happy. You can give yourself the gift of happiness, by living with intention — on (your) purpose. That means following what your heart wants, paying attention to your gut instinct, and ultimately doing what’s best for you and what aligns with your passions.

This is your life!
(say it with me: “THIS IS MY LIFE!” Repeat as necessary)

Because it’s your life, you don’t have to live according to anyone else’s expectations. Screw them! This is about you, and whatever it is in this life that makes you happy. We’re talking big dreams, little gestures, volunteer opportunities that warm hearts, or even just being a part of something that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. We’ve all got different things to live for; you just have to find out what feels right and fits best with you.

The best way to start is to set your own expectations for yourself. Do your best to steer clear of the path where sheep walk, following the herd and doing what everyone else does based on society’s so-called rules and expectations. Remember, this is about you — who you are, what you want, where you want to go.

Get away from the chaos, and get real with yourself. Dig deep into your soul and ignite the spark within you, by asking and answering these from your heart, in your own words:

  • In order to feel joy, contentment and happiness when I wake up, I want my life to be filled with _________?
  • I love being with people who ________? I choose to spend my time _______?
  • If I could do anything I wanted, I would _________? What if it works out exactly as you want it to?
  • What gets in the way of me being happy? Joyful?
  • If you were to teach people how to have fun, what would you say?
  • How do you want it to be? What is the dream?

And after you’ve answer the questions above ask and answer: What two steps could I take before bed tonight that would make the biggest difference in my ______(a current situation) I want movement in?

  2. _________________________

Don’t shy away from the truth. If you answer these questions honestly, straight from your heart, you’ll uncover what’s really important to you and find the direction towards living your purpose. And believe me, it’s easier to navigate your way towards where you want to be, when you know exactly what you want.

Living with purpose

Every morning when that alarm clock goes off and you open your eyes, you have a choice. It’s up to you to adjust your attitude and make positive decisions that lead towards a better and more enjoyable life for you. An absolutely perfect day where every small detail goes according to plan will never happen, but setting your intentions will help you manage any bumps along the way and adjust yourself accordingly to keep that fire in your soul alive.

Everything you do – big or small – should always be in your best interests, and serve towards creating a life that makes you happy. The way you live your life should never be in the interest of impressing or pleasing those around you; it’s your life to live for you.

Once you’ve figured out what you really want from your life and what you want to live for everyday, let it light that fire inside of you. Go after everything that makes your heart flutter, gets your adrenaline pumped up, and puts a painfully excessive smile on your face! Set your alarm and get ready to wake up tomorrow, excited to live your life how you want to, FOR YOU!

We all get one life, and it’s bound to be a good life if you make it one. All you have to do is is let your heart lead you to action.
